Heritage Hotel 1926

Hotel 1926 is a living testament to Penang's colonial history, urban evolution, and enduring charm.  Located along Jalan Burmah, one of George Town’s oldest thoroughfares, the hotel was initially developed as a series of 24 double storey terrace houses in the Anglo-Malay architectural style.  These buildings, with their pitched roofs, high ceilings, wooden accents, and large windows, were designed to suit Penang’s tropical climate while reflecting British colonial aesthetics.  Originally, they served as government quarters, housing British immigration officers and local administrators who helped govern the island during the colonial era.

The hotel’s 96 rooms have been reconfigured into 78 larger, more spacious rooms by combining smaller units. The layout is divided into two main areas; the front main building along Jalan Burmah houses the elegant lobby, dining  and commercial spaces.  The rear are the guest rooms where one wing opens onto a tranquil swimming pool and garden, while the other has rooms surround peaceful internal courtyards, offering guests a serene escape from the bustling city.
